5 Crystals for Self Love and Acceptance

There are many crystals you can use to help facilitate self love and acceptance. Here is a list of five of my personal favorites. 


Amethyst:

Amethyst helps you to get in tune with and connected to your emotions. A lot of us are good at blocking out our emotions, ignoring them or letting them control us. Amethyst will help you to work with your emotions. 

Amazonite:

If you’re looking to not only embrace your inner truth, but express it as well, amazonite is the crystal for you. It has a very strong but tender energy. 

Howlite:

Howlite helps you to be totally comfortable with yourself. Silly quirks and all. 

Lepidolite:

This crystal encourages you to have a divine connection with your higher self. Connecting with your higher self, in a divine manner, helps you more easily work with your intuition and your true self. 

Rose Quartz:

No list of self love crystals would be complete without talking about rose quartz. This is the Big Mama of love crystals. Self love, tenderness, compassion and inner peace and forgiveness.

It’s currently February, which means you pretty much can’t go one day without hearing about love and romance. Which can be kind of annoying for some, even upsetting for others. 

Regardless of your feelings on the commercialization of Valentines Day or your feelings on romance, February is definitely ripe with the energy of love. 

I personally prefer to harness the energy of February with love for my family and friends, my community and also upping my Self Love Game.

7 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues Naturally

Winter. It sucks. With the cold temperatures, snow and gray skies, it’s easy to see why lots of people suffer from a major case of the Winter Blues. Myself included.

But there are some ways to conquer these blah feelings! I’ve compiled a list of seven of my personal tried and true methods to beat the winter blues.


1. Crystals

Crystals are great to help uplift your mood. They work both as a form of color therapy and their energy frequencies can help boost your mood. You can meditate with the crystals, carry them with you, set them around your home where you can see them. So many ways to use them.  Some of the best crystals for the winter blues are:

  • Orange calcite
  • Citrine
  • Carnelian
  • Red jasper
  • Selenite
  • Sunstone

2. Essential Oils

Essential oils are a must have for your arsenal of winter blues busting tools. Really, essential oils should be in your arsenal for life in general. Essential oils are some of the best and easiest ways to boost your mood. Put some in a diffuser, apply some topically or even smell it straight from the bottle.

3. Lights and lamps

There are two types of lights for this category. The first would be a Light Box Therapy Light. These lights are supposed to mimic the suns natural light. Our bodies need sunlight to function properly. Part of the reason so many people feel down in the winter is due to the lack of sun. These lights help boost your vitamin D and other good stuff. You can find these lamps at stores like Walmart, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Target, etc. Make sure you’re getting a light therapy light though, otherwise it may not actually do much for you.

Another type of light to get is a Himalayan Salt Lamp. These are excellent for so many things. They emit negative ions into the air. Negative ions are responsible for the “feel good” energy around us. Negative ions are found naturally in places like the woods, beach, waterfalls. These salt lamps are a great way to boost these ions in your living space. These lights can be found on Amazon, Home Depot, etc.

4. Exercise

When it’s cold and disgusting outside, we tend to hole up inside. Snuggled on the couch and staying warm and cozy. This also means that we are probably a lot less active than we are in the warmer months. Making sure to include some form of regular exercise into your day can really help you beat the blues. Exercise and body movement help to release endorphins and make you feel great. Try some easy indoor exercise like yoga. Even doing some sets of planks and crunches each day can be beneficial.

5. Diet

There are lots of holidays and festivities within the winter months. Which usually means lots of food and eating. It’s easy to consume lots of sugary and fried foods this time of year. It’s ok to indulge in some goodness every once in awhile. But try to increase the good foods. Make sure you’re getting enough fruits and veggies in your diet each day. Even increasing your intake of fruits and veggies can be helpful.

6. Outside

Ugh. I know. It’s COLD outside. But getting outside frequently, even when it’s cold, is really good for you. If you can, try to get outside for 10-15 minutes at least. Especially on sunny days. You’ll get the benefit of the sun plus the fresh air. Both of which can really boost your mood. Combining number 4 (exercise) with the outdoors is even better! Go for a short walk each day if you can.

7. Meditation

Having a regular meditation practice is really great for your whole being. Especially during these winter months. Meditation helps to decrease your stress, tension and anxiety and in turn will help boost your mood.

Bonus

Want to really kick the winter blues away? Go nuts and combine as many of these suggestions as you can!

Go for a short walk outside then come in and meditate. Make sure you have your salt lamp and light box on, with some oils in the diffuser and crystals in your hand. Once done meditating, make sure to refuel with a healthy snack. Woohoo!

Birthday Tarot Spread and Ceremony


My birthday was a couple of days ago and I did a little ceremony and card reading for myself. I thought I would share it here with you to do on your own birthday!

Holding ceremony for yourself at important times of your life is important. It doesn’t have to be a lavish ceremony or anything. Just a little something special for you to mark the occasion.

Here is a small birthday ceremony and tarot spread you can try on your next birthday.

  • Light a white candle
  • Clear your aura and space with some sage or palo santo
  • Read your tarot cards (with the spread below or one of your choosing)
  • After the reading, jot down any thoughts or feelings that came up.
  • Sit in quiet meditation and review your year, the good and the not so good.
  • Come up with one thing you’re thankful for. Sit with this feeling for a bit.
  • Come up with one thing you’d like to release or leave behind in the coming year.
  • Write this down on a small piece of paper.
  • Practicing fire safety, burn this piece of paper and envision what you’re releasing being released within the smoke.

And that’s it! Maybe end your ceremony with a relaxing lavender bath and head to bed.

How to Create A Simple Sacred Space

Creating a sacred space doesn’t have to be stressful or super involved. You can easily create a simple sacred space with just a few items. Here are some of my tips on creating a simple, yet powerful, sacred space.

A sacred space can be something you set up and leave out all of the time or it can be something you put together just for the duration of your meditation or daily practice.

One of my favorite things to do is choose a few items each day to set out while I meditate. This way, my altar or sacred space is different each day, providing me with what I may need on that particular day.

  • Choose a couple items that have special meaning to you. Perhaps a photo of a loved one, a rock you found on a hike, a feather, etc.
  • Some people like to make sure all four elements are present in their sacred space: earth, air, fire and water. These can be represented by a stone (earth), incense (air), a candle (fire) and a small bowl of water or a seashell (water).
  • Having a candle is helpful. Either a simple candle or a candle depicting a saint or deity of your choice.
  • Having your sacred space high vibe and cleared of any unwanted energies is important. Using some sort of palo santo, sage or essential oils is a good practice to have.
  • Placing a crystal in your sacred space can help boost your energy and intentions.

And there you have it! Nothing super fancy or elaborate but still very powerful and packed full of intention!

What Does It Mean To Be A Witch?

What is a witch? This is a question I’ve been asked a lot. You’d think in this day and age, the scary old hag eating children stigma attached to witches would be gone by now. But sadly, that image is still around. On the plus side though, more and more people are speaking out about what it truly means to be a witch. More and more people are learning the true meaning behind something that is honestly quite beautiful. In fact, you yourself may be a witch and not even realize it!

In order to spare you from having to read a giant long blog post, I made a video discussing my opinion of what it means to be a witch. This is by no means the absolute definition, as people have varying opinions of their own. This is my own personal thoughts on the matter. I love answering questions! Side note: In the video I say multiple times that the full moon is all about setting intentions. I was so excited about what I was talking about, I didn’t realize what I was saying haha. Although intentions can be set at the full moon, typically we set intentions at the new moon.

How To Heal A Hurting Heart

When someone hurts our feelings and hurts our heart, we have a few options to deal with it. We can either ignore it, hold onto the anger and hurt or release it and send the person love. Let’s talk about these options and which one is most effective and healing.

Ignoring the problem. Sometime when someone hurts our feelings and our heart, we feel the best and easiest solution is just to ignore it. This never works. Until you deal with your hurt, acknowledge it and do something about it…it doesn’t ever disappear. Even if you’re a professional ignorer. It sits at your subconscious level and festers away until it seeps into all areas of your life.

Holding onto the hurt and anger. This is usually a coping and defensive mechanism. This one tends to come naturally it seems. We may feel that if someone hurt us, well then screw them! And we end up putting up a wall around our heart, feeling the tension and tightness in our chests. But they deserve it! Right? They don’t deserve a cushy spot in our hearts! Wrong. All this does is hurt you! It’s like that quote “holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to get sick”. It just doesn’t work.

Releasing the hurt and sending the person love. Wait a minute. They hurt us. Why on earth would I send them love?? Because it’s what’s best for all parties involved. Even if the other party isn’t aware of it. When someone hurts our hearts, it’s best (not always easiest) to release it. Release the hurt, then send the person loving and healing energy. Most of the time when someone is unkind to us, it’s because they themselves are hurting. Feeding their hurt with hurt won’t help the situation. Remember, thoughts and feelings are energy. So even if the person has no idea you’re sending them hurtful thoughts, or loving thoughts, the energy of your thoughts will still affect them.

Remember that feeling of tightness and tension in your chest when you chose to hold onto the hurt? Well the exact opposite happens when you choose to release the hurt. You literally feel your chest loosen and open up. You feel lighter. Why wouldn’t you want to feel that way?

So how do you release the hurt and send the love? I like to work with crystals, sage, intention and visualization.

  • Light your sage and cleanse your aura. While you cleanse your aura and space, say out loud (or silently in your mind), I release this hurt. I release this pain.
  • Sit with your crystals. I like to use green Aventurine or Rose Quartz. Visualize the crystals energy mending your heart and filling you with loving energy.
  • Then, once you feel your heart full of loving energy, visualize a bright green light being sent to the person who hurt your feelings. Say (or think), I am sending (insert their name here) love and healing so they may deal with the hurt in their heart.

And that’s it! I promise you, after doing this little healing ritual you will feel immensely better and lighter.

5 Steps To Have A Better Day

Today has sucked. It’s lasted forever and it’s still not over. It’s 90 degrees and humid and our AC has been out for a week. The kids will not stop arguing and whining. I’m behind on work and it’s stressing me out. The house is a mess. I’m exhausted, frustrated and drained. But it’s a blessing in disguise.

We all have shitty days, and that’s okay. That’s life. It happens.

It’s even okay to feel bad for yourself every now and then. But you can’t wallow in it forever. You have to do something about it.

Shitty days can be a sort of reminder from the universe that you need to nurture yourself. You need to take care of yourself. Use this reminder as the blessing it is. Slow down. Take care of yourself. 

Take this as permission from the Universe or Spirit that it’s okay for you to take a moment for yourself. In fact, it’s required. Non-negotiable. 


I like to do these five steps: breathe, center, cleanse, ground, nurture.

When the hell am I supposed to fit these steps in? Well, I’m glad you asked. Part of taking care of yourself is making yourself a priority. Sometimes we have to set other things aside in order to fit in our self care.

Maybe this means going to bed a little bit later. Maybe it means rescheduling an appointment. Maybe it means putting off doing the laundry, dishes or work.

Remember, shitty days are major reminders from the Universe that you need to take care of yourself. 

✨Try these five steps, either on their own or (better yet) at the same time. Remember that required time you set aside for yourself?

  • Breathe. This one sounds self explanatory. But I’m not talking about just breathing. I’m talking about taking conscious, full breaths. Inhaling deep through your nose, feeling the air fill your entire body and breathing in calm. Exhaling through your mouth and feeling the tension leave your body and your energy grounding to the earth. The bonus with breathing is that you can do this any time during your day. You don’t need to set aside special time to take a few conscious breaths. I’ve personally taken about a thousand conscious breaths today. It’s pretty much the only thing that’s getting me through the day, to be honest.
  • Center. This activity is best to do when you have some quiet time for yourself, but it can be done at any time. This is like next level breathing. While taking your conscious breaths, close your eyes and really feel within. Really feel your energy coming together and centering. Feeling aligned, calm, collected.
  • Cleanse. When our energy is funky, it needs to be cleansed. Two of my favorite ways are baths and sage with crystals. Sometimes I even do both. Draw yourself a bath and sprinkle in some lavender Epsom salts. The lavender will calm you while the salts will cleanse your energy (and bonus! Help ground you). Let yourself relax, do more of your centering and breathing. Imagine all of the funky energy washing off your body and as the water empties down the drain, visualize the crap energy emptying along with it. To sage yourself with crystals, it’s sort of a bath with smoke. Light your sage and set it in its bowl in front of you. Waft the smoke around yourself, envisioning it cleansing your energy. Close your eyes, holding your quartz and (you guessed it!) do your conscious breathing and centering. Feeling the sage smoke and the crystals purifying you.
  • Ground. A lot of the activities I’ve mentioned are also grounding. But if your energy is feeling extra out of whack, doing an activity specifically aimed at grounding, can be helpful. The easiest way is to go outside, barefoot if possible, and place your feet on the earth. Consciously breathing (you seeing a theme here?) and feeling your energy connecting to the earth. Feeling your unwanted energy transferring into the earth to be transformed by Gaia. Holding some black tourmaline is extra effective. If it’s too cold or weather doesn’t permit, you can do the grounding exercise inside while holding your black tourmaline.
  • Nurture. This one is up to you! Do what you feel would nurture yourself the most. Maybe you want to read your cards or a book. Perhaps giving yourself a pedicure is nurturing for you. Drawing a picture. Listening to a guided meditation. Ideally nurturing yourself will not involve electronics, as electronics can be draining.

My day has been shitty. Super shitty. But I’m using this as my reminder from the Universe to take care of myself. I’ll be doing all five of these steps tonight. And that’s a blessing.

Easy Daily Card Spread

It’s so important to start your day off on the right foot. Taking a moment for yourself, gathering your thoughts and focusing your energy. For me, this means enjoying a cup of coffee while I read my cards for the day.

I love connecting with my cards. They really help me to see different areas I need to be focusing on or working on. It helps me figure out the overall energy or lesson of the day. I do a simple three card spread. Check out the details below.


I personally like to use tarot cards for the first two cards and an oracle card for the third card. But this spread can work with all tarot or all oracle cards. Do what feels right for you. I also like to write down my cards and my interpretation each day in a journal. It’s nice to be able to go back and look at what you’ve written. Noticing any trends or whatnot.

1. Less of. This card shows you what you currently need less of in your life. Whether it’s a direction you’re headed, the energy you’re putting out, the thoughts or feelings you have or the people and energy in your life.

2. More of. This card shows you what you need more of. Whether it’s a direction you should be going, the energy to send out, the thoughts or feelings you have or the people and energy in your life.

3. Overall. This card is the overall energy of the day, what you should be focusing on or a lesson you should learning.

  • You could even do just a one card pull for the overall vibe or lesson of the day. I do this if I’m having a particularly busy morning.

As always, do what feels right to you. Tweak this spread to your liking. Always trust your intuition.
